i heart food

this post is specifically being written to give a huge shout out to my aunt j. and uncle d. who rock.

they stopped by on their way home from hawaii for one day/night of city life before flying home to colorado. they were wonderful and took conor and i out to a wonderful meal. it was a wonderful night full of wonderful conversation. but i won't try to describe the food because i will only be mocked later when conor reads this. if you've ever read my past blogs, you surely know that i can't describe meals to save my life! everything is marked as 'delicious!' and 'tasty!'. all i can tell you is what everything looked like. but the food itself... how can you describe taste?

okay, since i know that both amber and lindsay just started crying, i have changed my mind and will describe it a little bit. at the very least, here's the summary of our dinner:

we ate at a place called 'quince' which is a hot new traditional italian place in san francisco.

starter courses included roasted squid, broccoli crostini, foie gras, and two small pasta dishes - one of which was served with this really yummy cheese that is made in some small italian town of like 50 people up a small winding road (i swear). and it's only available this time of year. but i can't remember the name. something -magne?

our main courses included conor's 'giant veal meatball' (there was an italian word for this that started with a p. which we all found quite humorous), sea bass, duck, and sausage with lentils.

desserts included meyer lemon eclairs, chocolate/hazlenut tart, cardamom and orange(?) upside down cake, and a lavendar flan-type thing (argh what was that called?) with a blackberry sauce drizzled around it.

mmm.

we drank 3 great wines - a white, a red, and a muscat. but woe is me who can't recall which wines they were. i do know that they were from piedmont. and they were great.

but the best part of the night wasn't dinner... it wasn't meeting for cocktails before dinner... it wasn't the nice weather... it was simply seeing my aunt and uncle. they told us all these great stories about their travels through europe. we were in stitches when told of their truffle quests. conor was impressed by their never-ending knowledge of food. and we both decided we have a lot to learn from them the two of them.

maybe i'll enlist conor and i as their apprenti, and we can tag along on all their future trips! wee! i'm sure they would just LOVE that...

water & sleep

what is it about flying on airplanes that makes you so dang tired? my flight out to florida wiped me out. i felt like i was delirious all day on saturday, but then couldn't actually sleep when i tried to nap.

on my way back to san fran, i forced myself to sleep because the flight from charlotte to SF was so long that the in-flight movie ended, i ran out of my thread to crochet, and quite frankly, i was just bored.

and i still felt like poo when i landed.

and i still felt like poo on monday.

and i still felt like poo yesterday.

today, after chugging ridiculously large quantities of water, i sort of feel normal again. ugh. it's thursday. this bout of fatigue and dehydration was nearly a week old. note to self: sleeping pills and water bottles are a must on my next trip home.

iDead

my iPod's hard drive failed on me.

iCrash!
   iBoom
                iBANG.

yay for 1-year warranties...
(even if my iReplacement does have a gimpy click iButton)

sigh.

the good news is that i got it fixed just in time for my trip. because today i embark on an egg-citing adventure: FLO-REE-DAH!

fla: land o' sunshine and beaches and margarittas and oranges
FL: land o' SUVs and strip malls and retirees and humidity!

seeing my parents and also attending the wedding of my longest-running friendship will be well worth the journey.

little secrets

ha ha this made me laugh:

i say i'm a vegetarian but...

this has been the weekend/week of baked goods. i made honey whole wheat bread on sunday, chocolate chip oatmeal cookies in the shape of hearts for my wonderful roommates for v-day, and then last night conor and i made our own homemade cinnamon rolls. and my mom sent a tasty box of grasshoppers (chocolate brownies with mint & fudge topping). it's like a bakery exploded inside my house.

mmm.

i hope you all had a love-ly heart's day! kisses to all!

blognesia

weird. this week, i seem to have forgotten that i have a blog. oh fellow readers, don't be sad... i am back now. poke me if i forget to update it next week, okay?

thankfully, i don't have anything exciting to report to the masses. this week has been a lot of the same - working and working out and sleeping and eating. oh except that we had a visitor from the far-off lands of boston/cambridge (insert a shout out to ms. shawdee here). she came over and helped us celebrate the chinese new year by making pot stickers and eating chinese take-out. mmm. catfoo(d) knows how to make a mean potsticker!

speaking of the chinese new year, i was given a gift from a mysterious man in our elevator at work! a little red envelope with a dollar in it. i feel lucky now. i guess if i'd gotten it the day before, i would have had to place it under my pillow so that it could magically turn into money and good luck while i slept. i think getting it in an elevator anonymously is just as fun, though. imho.

anyone need me to pick lottery numbers for them or something??
